Key Benefits of this Course

  • This comprehensive workshop has been designed to give you confidence, clarity and competence in a sensitive and complex area of managing people.
  • You will develop knowledge and understanding by learning the key stages of disciplinary and grievance cases, how to conduct investigatory interviews, and how to determine cases fairly and in accordance with current legislation.
  • Your organisation will benefit from your more secure handling of these difficult matters.

Course Rationale

Discipline and grievance cases can be among the most challenging issues managers and their HR advisers have to deal with.  It is essential that they are approached with a clear understanding of the principles and requirements of the relevant employment law.  Organisations that deal with these matters proactively and competently avoid damaging and sometime costly litigation, and promote productive working relationships.

The course assumes no prior knowledge, but provides a useful means for those with experience to refresh their skills and bring their knowledge up to date.

Course Content

  • Principles of good practice in dealing with discipline and grievance
  • The ACAS framework
  • Update on relevant legislation
  • Evidence gathering and investigation
  • Fair and professional approaches to disciplinary meetings
  • Coping with stressful situations
  • Record keeping
  • Employee rights
  • Avoiding allegations of bullying and victimization
  • Tackling perceived unfairness and reward dissatisfaction

A Note from the Trainer

"This is a complex area of work in which many managers and HR professionals feel insecure.  Our approach is essentially practical, designed to build your competence and confidence.  We don’t aim to make you a legal expert, but to give you the working knowledge you need to ensure that you deal with these matters fairly and effectively.

"There will be opportunities to practise newly acquired knowledge and skills and to explore the real issues that you have to deal with in your working lives."
